What I’m currently working on
Now that my Figma plugin Styles to Variables has covered most of the required use cases, I can redirect my attention to the design and implementation of moodboards.gallery. It's a new cool place on the Internets that I'm building, where designers reveal their inspirations through interviews.
I have already drawn a bunch of rectangles and defined some components. Now, I need to select a final layout — or at least the first one that will be implemented and shipped.
If you haven't done so already, you can sign up for the waiting list to be the first to know when it will be released!
Thoughts on giving back to your peers
Hip-Hop songs teach important lessons about growth and collaboration. Artists often collaborate, so when one succeeds, their entire crew benefits. Collaboration in Hip-Hop and other artistic fields fosters learning, collective creativity, and increased impact.
Similarly, the idea of giving back to peers is significant in software design and engineering. Collaboration among professionals promotes learning, creativity, and professional growth. Software experts can support each other through mentorship, workshops, and online communities, sharing knowledge and advancing careers. By guiding and empowering their peers, experienced practitioners help them overcome challenges and reach their full potential.
Ideally, when evaluating a designer or engineer for a role or project, it would be beneficial to consider the following criteria:
Acknowledgment of influence: Do they recognize that their work is derived from a blend of inspirations, previous works (both their own and others), and their own creative mindset?
Recognition of collaboration: Do they proactively credit and acknowledge every individual who contributed to the success and outcomes of the project? Are they mindful of the collaborative efforts that led to the final product?
Supportive mentality: Do they publicly appreciate and give shoutouts to their peers when their peers are featured or mentioned in the press, articles, threads, or other relevant platforms? Are they keen on uplifting and showcasing the achievements of their colleagues?
By assessing these factors, we can ensure that we prioritize individuals who embody a collaborative spirit and actively contribute to the growth and success of their peers in the design and engineering community.
