Hey friends!

I don’t know about you, but I’m still feeling the back-to-school vibes — even if my last memory of school class tends to be a bit blurry now. It’s probably due to hearing and seeing more life in the streets: kids going to school, laughing, and playing together.

There is not a lot of nostalgia here, but rather a reminder that the end of the year is near and that I still want to ship 99 things before, as always, and probably like some of you!

Here are today’s topics:

  1. What I’m working on

  2. Thoughts on perfectionism

  3. Interesting works of the week

What I’m working on

I took a bit of time to reflect, see some friends, and recharge during the last days of summer. I’m still working on moodboards.gallery ↗︎ and did some work around my website’s architecture and navigation.

Current setup and mymind

I also gathered some additional references to extend the current visual language, something more vibrant, animated, and full of details. I think I can do better usage of the typefaces I use, add subtle transitions, and make the yellow more present.

You can learn more about my inspirations on my moodboard page.

Thoughts on perfectionism

A few days ago, I had an interesting conversation with a friend about being a perfectionist and how it can prevent us from shipping projects.

One thought that emerged during this talk was that perfectionism is endless, while excellence is rational as you can easily define criteria to reach it and can position the cursor on the spectrum of enough.

You can prioritize and evaluate project features by being honest with yourself about what you truly aim to achieve, what would make you proud, and what metrics matter.

I didn’t read every book, article, or essay about perfectionism, nor its psychological origin but “You can only improve what you measure.” is a quote I find especially interesting here. Hold on, don’t turn yourself and your projects into a KPI machine, but maybe instead ask yourself what is enough, what is really worth the effort, and try to stay honest with your goals and motivations.

Interesting works of the week

  • Charcoalblue Experience — Brand Identity

  • Pair Up — Website

  • Rogue Studio — Website

That’s all, friends — have a great Sunday! 🖤
